RESCUE REUSE REIMAGINE
With an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste created every year, sustainability in the fashion industry is a growing concern.
At the Zero Waste upclying workshop, I learnt about how excess materials from luxury houses and reputable mills are given new life by The R Collective, whose mission is to catalyse the circular fashion revolution by rescuing waste from landfill and incineration, reusing these materials through upcycling and reimagining their destiny with timeless designs.
In designing a blazer, the team utilised the rescued fabrics as much as possible with only 1% waste.
The R Collective is founded by Dr. Christina Dean with Ms. Denise Ho as creative director. 25 % of the profits would be donated to Redress, an environmental NGO educating on circular fashion.
